It has been awhile since I have written. There is always so much to do after a conference and by now many of you have gone through another back-to-school with your kids.
The Risen Lord: Our Hope Conference is past. It was another Spirit-filled conference with many blessings. We are grateful for those who were able to come and also for the many prayers and financial support. As we have said before, we believe that God deserves a first-class celebration and so we step out in faith year-after-year.
Next year's conference is already scheduled at the Shrine of St. Therese in Pueblo. Jesus: Our Good Shepherd runs from August 6-8, 2010. Mark your calendar. We would love to double the attendance at our conferences.
Please keep us in prayer as we move forward in our ministry. Currently we have a number of fund raising avenues that we are pursuing. If you can help, we will be grateful. They are listed below.
Thanks and God Bless You,
Are You Ready?
During this after-conference time, I have done some extra reading and praying. I have found Peace of Soul by Archbishop Sheen particularly interesting in view of our current times.
I don't think I have ever known a time when there is so much diverse information and consequently, such disunity in beliefs and convictions. It is my hope that in reading these thoughts from Archbishop's book, you will find a new conviction to be ready for the great influx of conversions that is ahead.
It is no secret that there is a non-stop effort to push God out of our lives and our country. Archbishop Sheen used to say that the reason our hearts are mis-shapen is because God kept a piece for Himself and we will not be whole until we are complete in God.
Right now, however, he would say that we used to study the problems of man and now we study man as a problem. Ever since the atom bomb when man realized how he could control nature, finding God through nature has lost its place to science.
Here is the first paragraph in Peace of Soul: "UNLESS souls are saved, nothing is saved; there can be no world peace unless there is soul peace. World wars are only projections of the conflicts waged inside the souls of modern men, for nothing happens in the external world that has not first happened within a soul."
So what am I saying about a great influx of conversions? Archbishop Sheen pointed out " 'In times of peace, prepare for war.' " but " 'In times of turmoil and dissolution, prepare to meet God.' "
Archbishop explained that there are three types of crises that bring about conversion: moral, spiritual and physical. I blieve that it is clear that we have a crisis in each area. I don't think I have to explain these. I will just take the physical for an example, since the moral and spiritual are quite clear.
If the H1N1 flu outbreak occurs in a big way and becomes a widespread pandemic, it will effect many areas of our lives. From what I have heard, it could not only take lives of our loved ones, but also affect our being able to get out to the store for food, to places of work which could be shutdown, etc. I am not trying to scare people, but I think we need to pray about this so that we will be strong in Our Lord for whatever is ahead of us in any of these potential areas of crisis.
And, indeed, if Archbishop Sheen is corrrect, we could be facing a time of great conversion and turing back to God. Will we have immersed ourselves in prayer and the sacraments so that we will have the strength for the times we are living in and to be a beacon of hope to others in their needs, and to each other?
Maybe you will not agree with me, but as Archbishop Sheen has said, when you take God out of the picture, you eliminate the escapes of a three-dimentional world with heaven above and hell below. Then there is just the one level of the earth and what remains are the rightists and leftists. Isn't that what we are seeing - the constant back and forth of the rightists and leftists and the constant blaming?
I will conclude with these thoughts from Peace of Soul: "Matter divides, as spirit unites. Divide an apple into four parts, and it is always possible to quarrel as to who has the biggest part; but if four men learn a prayer, no one man deprives the other of possessing it - the prayer becomes the basis of their unity. When the goal of civilization consists, not in union with the Heavenly Father, but in the acquisition of material things, there is an increase in the potentialities of envy, greed, and war. Divided men then seek a dictator to bring them together, not in the unity of love, but in the false unity of the three P's - Power, Police, and Politics." (Chapter 1; paragraph 20)
Let us immerse ourselves in prayer and the sacraments. Let us always be grateful for our faith and the freedoms we have had throughout our lives.
God bless you!
Our 2010 calendars have arrived. These are fun calendars. Some are really beautiful. Others are funny. Do you like puppies, kittens, horses, hummingbirds, garden scenes, cows, pigs, "baker's dozen", bridges, country scenes, country cabins, country churches and more? These will be available for a $10 donation. If you need to have a calendar mailed, there will be an additional $5 added.
See's Candy Bars
Once again we have See's candy bars. They sell for $2 each or 3 for $5. These 1.5 oz bars come in milk chocolate, milk chocolate with toffee nuggets, and milk chocolate with almonds. They are delicious as you know. We will have them available wherever we sell our books.
We do have the blessing of a couple of booksales. We will be vendors at the conference in Pueblo on Oct. 9 and 10. We will also be at the St. Pat's First Annual Craft Fair on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 after all Masses. It could be a great opportunity to do some advance Christmas shopping as there will be other vendors there as well as many craft items available.
Proceeds from all these fund raising opportunities go to help with our ministry We still have current debt with the Pikes Peak Center and also remaining past debt. We know it is a challenging time for people with the economy and we again thank you for all your past support. If you can help in any way at this time, we will be extremely grateful.
Please consider us for your end-of-the-year donations. Please remember us in your prayers.
Thank you and God bless you,
